You've Got Mail

Dear Vacationers,

When you are on vacation, the things that interest you most may be the ruins of toppled dynasties, or the sight of a predatory beast defending its turf. Of course, that’s all going on back at the office. Why miss out on the drama, just because you happen to be backpacking in Yosemite?

The solution, increasingly, is to remain plugged in: by fax, email, texts, or cell phone conversation. The devices are the furniture of what has become, for many travelers, the global workspace, forever blurring the boundaries between office and vacation. You’re on a remote beach in Costa Rica; you’ve got mail! (From an article written by John Leland, "Taking Off, Tuning In,” Newsweek, July 27,1998)

The rhythm of work and rest is critical to our spiritual wellbeing. Each of us could improve upon the work life balance in our lives. We have also each been blessed by the cycle of work and rest.

May our Labor Day prayer be that we each grow deeper into the blessings for vocation and Sabbath time.

See Genesis 1:1-2:4 for further reflection.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
