You Follow?

Dear Abiders,

The risen Jesus appeared first and repeatedly to his own disciples, strengthening them, encouraging them, giving them the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not come seeking admirers; Jesus called followers. Jesus calls us to be those whose lives are attached to him, grounded securely in him, trying to embody his way in all our ways. What is Christianity? Not a philosophy of life, some set of noble ideals. Christianity is about being in, abiding with, following after Jesus.

In John 15:1-8, Christ tells his followers that they must “abide in me as I abide in you,” using the analogy of the vine and its branches. Thus Christ provides a striking image of our relationship to him.

We were created for a rhythm of rest and “abiding” in and with Jesus. Then taking action to serve and “bear fruit" in Jesus name. How is your rhythm?

Prayer concerns for our community: Nepal and the People of Kathmandu, those who mourn the dead on Mt Everest, Justice in the aftermath of the Freddie Gray death and peace for the city of Baltimore, the peacemakers such as Rev. Kelly and Rodney Jackson in the midst of the gang warfare in Denver, for graduates, for Mothers and Fathers.

Still in one peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
