You Are

Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth.” “You are the light of the world.” (Matt 5:13,14)

Not, you should be, or you have to be or you better be…but you are.

We are salt and light.

We don’t have to work at becoming salt or light. We are not becoming salt and light. We are already blessed to be salt and light. Jesus is encouraging and affirming us. Just as in the previous verses in Matthew…”Blessed are…” this is another blessing.

Salt and light are our identity. The world desperately needs salt and light. And we are it. Just a little salt and a small light are plenty. A bit of salt for flavor, for healing and for curing. A bit of light reveals, helps point the way and gives hope.

We welcome, we listen, we spend time with God our Father. We stand up for what’s right. We reach out. We invite and we serve. We share and are generous.

We are salt and light.

Tomorrow we gather to remind one another of our identity as children of God, to praise and thank God, and to hear the Good News. So that we’ll go out joining Jesus in his mercy to change me, we and the world. We’ll be looking for you at 9:00 or 10:30 a.m. – hopefully in person, but perhaps in spirit via the live stream.

And it's our friend Rodney's 50th birthday today! We hope to celebrate him in worship tomorrow. If you want, bring a bag of non-perishable groceries for him. We'll fill his cupboards for his birthday and maybe have cake, too!

Grace be with you,
