Yet Again

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Last Sunday, as I sat at the Culberson home celebrating the baptism of Robert Bradley Culberson, we received word of the shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland, Texas.  We live in a country where we have seen movie theaters, schools, shopping malls, and churches transformed into murder scenes with regularity. Why has it happened yet again? Why does it happen at all?

There is no definitive answer to all the questions we ask at a time of great tragedy.  We live with our doubts, trusting that faith great or small is enough.  One thing we do know is that isolation and loneliness can cause a human being to act in desperate ways.

In Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus talks about the action we might take on behalf of Christ. The question is asked, “ How might we see you Jesus ?”  In the 40th verse Jesus  responds by saying , "Whenever you do things for someone who is overlooked or ignored, that is me—you  did it for me.” When the “ignored and overlooked” are recognized and included there is a sighting of Jesus in our midst.

A question worth asking is, “If we all develop an ever greater passion to see Christ in the overlooked and ignored, what will happen to the dynamic of desperation actions in our culture?”  Let the love of Christ flow freely in our midst that caring community might push away all isolation in Jesus' name!

Prayers: For Meadors, Mercers, Mitchells, Metz’s and all who are in need of healing. Those who are feeling ignored and overlooked. The victims of violence in Sutherland Texas, and all over the world. Our Thanksgiving preparations. The hungry. And for all who mourn.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
