Winks & Thoughts

I had a God “wink” this week that consisted of me thinking of what songs I wanted to be played at my memorial (nothing imminent) and on Sunday we sang two of them at church—Morning Has Broken and Crown Him with Many Crowns. I was a little shook that I had those thoughts on Thursday morning and here we were singing them on Sunday. I believe it is God reminding me that He hears me and is always present and listening.

Last week, I was also listening to a podcast between Oprah and Marianne Williamson and they mentioned a particular prayer that Marianne says each morning. My thought was that it might be a good thing to look up and share as a devotion. Since some of my random thoughts seem to have materialized, I decided to do go forward and act on this thought.

The prayer below is from Marianne Williamson’s book Illuminata. Marianne says this prayer each morning before starting her day. I found it a powerful prayer and one that has the power to shape our thoughts and actions to be the hands and feet of God as we set out each day.

Dear God,
I give this day to You.
May my mind stay centered on the things of spirit.
May I not be tempted to stray from love.
As I begin this day, I open to receive You.
Please enter where You already abide.
May my mind and heart be pure and true, and may I not deviate from the things of goodness.
May I see the love and innocence in all mankind, behind the masks we all wear and the
illusions of this worldly plane.
I surrender to You my doings this day.
I ask only that they serve You and the healing of the world.
May I bring Your love and goodness with me, to give unto others wherever I go.
Make me the person You would have me be.
Direct my footsteps, and show me what You would have me do.
Make the world a safer, more beautiful place.
Bless all Your creatures.
Heal us all, and use me, dear Lord, that I might know the joy of being used by You.
Amen.
