Why the Only Way is Up

Have you ever experienced something in your life that didn’t turn out the way in which you envisioned it? How did it leave you feeling? Sad … disappointed in yourself or others … maybe relieved … a combination of feelings you may not even be able to fully put words to?

No matter how you were or are feeling, it is important to remember that things in our life happen “for” us, not “to” us even if it doesn’t feel like it in the moment. When we are feeling low, for any reason, God gives us angels, here on earth and in heaven in the form of our pets, our friends and our families to help lift our spirits. HE even gives us a written reminder as in Psalm 121:

Psalm 121 New International Version (NIV)

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

When life feels like it is in the valley, remember to look up … hold your head high with no regret and know that God has you in His loving care. God loves you unconditionally and not only will HE help lead the way, HE will walk right beside you. God has a plan for each one of us and leads us to our own unique greatness.

Dear God, Thank you for not only leading us, but thank you for walking with us. May we remember that you are ALWAYS with us, no matter what happens in our lives. Thank you for believing in us even when we forget to. As we enter the seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas, may we remember to be thankful every day; and just as Christ was a light born into this world, may we too be a light of greatness that shares ourselves and our unique gifts with others. In your name we pray, Amen.
