Who is My Neighbor?

We have lived in our current home for two years. I consider myself a friendly, outgoing person who welcomes camaraderie. Is it simply enough to smile and wave as we pass by those in our neighborhood? Can I name the residents in more than two homes adjacent to mine? Do I know anything about the people in these homes? We live in an age where so many of us are spending our day being busy, even if it’s just attending to our life on our cell phone (or games). Do I rush to get home, drive in and shut the garage, ignoring any or avoiding any human contact in their yard or at the mailbox?

In Mathew 22:37-40, Jesus tells us, “ ‘ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love Him with all your mind.’ This is the first and most important commandment. And the second is like it. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ Everything that is written in the Law and Prophets is based on these two commandments.”

So who is my neighbor? Is it the people on my street, subdivision, town of Castle Rock? In Acts 17:26 -27, Jesus tells us that God decides exactly when and where we should live. What is God’s plan for me at 1315 Sky Rock Way? How can I make a difference in my community? How can my faith in God and Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior be reflected in my actions and relationship with my neighbor?

These are the questions and prayers for my week.

Have a Blessed day, a gift from God!
