Where's Dad?

Growing up as a kid in south Philly, the answer to this question was “Dad is working at the restaurant.”  I heard it so many times that my head was spinning.  In my friend’s house, the answer is “Dad is out of town working on a company project.” Yet other houses, the answer is “Dad is at the bar getting drunk.”  In other houses which should never happen, but does too often, the answer is “Dad got shot dead trying to rob a liquor store.”  The answer to the question should be “Dad is out playing with the kids” or “ Dad is helping the kids with their homework” and “Dad is holding Mom in his arms and telling her how much he loves her.”

There are too many fathers in the world and not enough dads.  I know moms are an extremely important part in raising a child in this world but dads should not sell themselves short.  My dad was pretty much the financial provider, working at the job in order to pay the bills.  That was pretty much it.  But I think nowadays it has to be much more than that.  It is tough growing up as a kid today.  Kids are lost today without some kind of male role modeling.  That is why there is so much crime, violence, and nonsense in the world.  Leadership, responsibility, caring, discipline, and love is what a dad needs to show his children.  I give much credit to dads that are like this. There are even dads who do this for children that are not their own.

That is what our Father God is.  Not only does He show tremendous love for the Son Jesus, but God loves all people who He takes as his adopted children.  God is an incredible example of what a dad should be.  God is always there for us.  He teaches us to be good men and women in Christ.  He shows us how to be good leaders in our community, but most important in our families.  I believe all dads in this world should follow God as role model.  If a dad feels he is failing as a dad, pray to God and God will give you the strength and love to be the best dad in the world.

It is time for dads to step it up a notch.  It’s not easy to be a good dad in this world.  Working to pay the bills and spend time with family is a tall order but God gives dads the ability to do all this.  It is encouraging what great dads do for their family.  It is wonderful what God does for us.  Be strong and courageous.  Take courage, because God will always be there for us.

In Christ,
Stan

P.S.  Please see the must see movie “Courageous” in the theatres.  It will make a huge impact on your life especially if you are a dad.
