Where There is Love, There is God

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.John 4:11-12 NIV

How do you show love to others outside of your natural comfort circle? What motivates you to volunteer to help others? Is it the opportunity to make a difference or fill a need that you see? Are you participating to be with friends whom you know will also be there? Or do you attend something because it is an opportunity to meet and help people or try something you haven’t done before? Any of these are good reasons. Perhaps while reading this, you thought of your own motivators for volunteering or trying something new. How do you show love to others?

At the end of the time spent, do you find you received back in return things never imagined, the uncontained joy from a smile someone gave you while you helped, seeing a beautiful area that was previously a mess before you started clean up, the new relationships you created from those serving with you or the ones you served? What are some of the benefits you have received? What unexpected love did you receive in return?

Find an upcoming event and give it a try. Most things just require a willingness to listen, have fun and be thoughtful and present. I guarantee, you will be blessed, and thankful you made the time and effort. Make 2019 a year to try something new and in doing so, love others.

Dear God, help us to love the people we are around daily and those we encounter in new situations. Making the world a better place starts with our own actions. Give us the courage to act and the willingness to help others. Help us to reflect positive actions and words so our lives reflect your love. Amen.
