What's in Your Cup?

I stumbled upon this a few days ago as a random Facebook post:

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.

The point is whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which will happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So, we have to ask ourselves, “What’s in my cup?” When life gets tough, what spills out?

Joy, gratefulness, peace, humility?

Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?

You choose!

Today, let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation for ourselves; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

For me, this was a great reminder that when life happens, and we are thrown a curve ball, we can still choose good. We can choose joy, gratefulness, peace, humility, happiness, kindness, compassion, determination, and the list goes on. God reflects these things to us unconditionally. What a great example for us to follow.

Dear God, thank you for giving us choices. May we choose to follow your examples of kindness, compassion and love so that we may live our lives in leadership and service to you. In your name we pray, Amen.
