What You Waiting For?

Genesis 39:1 “Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.”

Genesis 39:6 “So he left in Joseph’s care everything he had, with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, Come to bed with me!”

I was bummed out last week. The “news” as if it is news said that Ben Affleck fell in love with an actress from the latest movie he is working on. He said of this actress “she was the sexiest woman he had ever met.” After ten years of marriage and three children he finally met the sexiest woman he had ever met.

Is that what we are looking for? Is that what I am looking for?

Ben Affleck has made some great movies and he seemed really together and he was married to a beautiful woman… and he has three beautiful children. And then he met the sexiest woman he had ever met.

It may be sex, it may be wealth or money, or it may be alcohol or drugs. For Potiphar’s wife it was sex and Joseph said to her… Genesis 39:6 “But he (Joseph) refused. With me in charge, he told her, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a thing and sin against GOD?”

Truth is, everything we have is a gift from GOD. Everything! That includes our spouse, our family, our friends, even our house and everything in it, our job, our cars, our everything. Everything we have GOD has “entrusted to us… to you and I.” No one is greater in GOD’s eyes than you, he has withheld nothing from you or I except what we don’t need :) or what can harm us.

Joseph got in trouble, even went to prison for following his GOD. And in prison while following his GOD he had success in whatever he did.

We can do whatever we want and we can want anything, but I pray that what we want first and what we know first is that we are a wonderful, loving, precious child of GOD. I pray that you and I don’t take for granted what GOD has given us, in the relationships around us.

As I think back to when I met Diana 35 years ago, there was definitely a sexual attraction, but the reason I wanteto live the rest of my life with Diana was notjust for sex, but because she has become my best friend, my confident, my lover. I have been blessed by GOD with so many relationships, so many things, but by far the greatest gift I have received from my GOD, from my Creator, Lord, and Savior, is my family. Why would I look for anything outside of what GOD has, does, and will give me? Why? What am I waiting for?

If you have 3 minutes and 14 seconds watch George Ezra and his song titled “Blame It On Me.” ( or see below)

Precious Father, Loving GOD, Holy Spirit we pray for discernment from what we want and what we think you want. Help us to know everything we have is a gift from GOD. Help us to know that you GOD are what we are waiting for? AMEN!
