What Waste?

Exodus 16 22-30 “22 On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much—two omers for each person—and the leaders of the community came and reported this to Moses. 23 He said to them, “This is what the LORD commanded: ‘Tomorrow is to be a day of sabbath rest, a holy sabbath to the LORD. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.’ ” 24 So they saved it until morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it.

25 “Eat it today,” Moses said, “because today is a sabbath to the LORD. You will not find any of it on the ground today. 26 Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.”

27 Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather it, but they found none. 28 Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commands and my instructions? 29 Bear in mind that the LORD has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where they are on the seventh day; no one is to go out.” 30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

An old testament story again! The Israelites not listening to GOD… again!

I actually paused after I wrote that, because, I wonder if I listen to GOD?

I mean, I want to listen to GOD.

At least I think I do!

As I think about it… I like listening to GOD when he asks me to do things I like to do and to be honest I don’t know if I have ever done anything GOD has asked me to do that I didn’t want to do... if I was honest with you.

In Exodus 16:22-30 Moses tells the people that GOD wants them to gather as much manna as they want for the next day and on the sixth day to gather enough for two days. Anything over that goes to waste.

It got me to thinking about what I might be wasting. And so I thought about…

-Money. At first I thought there’s no way I waste money… and then I realized I have more money than the vast, vast, vast, majority of people in the world. If something breaks I get it fixed or replaced. I have more than I need and I find myself worrying about money still!

-Time. I believe I do waste time, but I am confused when it comes to time. If I’m working to earn money am I wasting the time that could be spent with my family and friends? If I’m relaxing am I wasting the time I could spend earning money or helping someone out? Truthfully, I do find myself worrying about how I spend my time!

-Things. I have a lot of stuff and I wonder how much of that is a waste? I have clothes I haven’t worn in over a year, tools I haven’t used yet, toys I rarely play with… a large trash can, a larger recycle bin, and an even larger compost bin that rarely gets filled very far. And there are times I find myself worrying about the things I have and the things I want!

GOD doesn’t want us to suffer! But suffering does not mean being without money, time, or things!

I am trying to figure this out in my life.

Maybe the old testament isn’t so old!

I pray that as I start to understand what my “manna” is, I listen to GOD!’

Everything I have is a gift from GOD, everything!

I don’t want to waste anything I have and I wouldn’t want my family or friends to waste anything…

I just want to do GOD’s will. And if I want to do GOD’s will I have to let go of mine!

Precious Father, Loving GOD, Holy Spirit I thank you for all you have given me. I pray for your guidance to let go and let GOD! AMEN!
