What Matters

Dear Christmas People,

What is your Christmas prayer? How do you plan to address the Christ Child? Will you use your own words or those of another, either way is fine.

Robert L. Stevenson has some words for a Christmas prayer I have used over the years. “Help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the Wise Men (Women). Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desire with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. May Christmas morning make us happy to be Thy Children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven-for Jesus' sake,  Amen.”

What words will you use for your Christmas prayer?  Spend some time alone in meditation asking your heart, what matters?  Dive in beyond the meals, the cleaning, the shopping, and the tasks you need to check off. Ask what matters. What would offer you new birth in Christ Jesus?  How might the love of your Heavenly Parent penetrate your fears and worries? That peace and love might come and dwell in the manger of your heart?

Prayers: For the words to pray this Christmas season. For the Nickoley family as they prepare for Alice’s funeral on December 23rd.

See Isaiah 9:6,7 for further reflection.

My brother Mark preached a few years ago at God’s Grace CC. He used this exchange between Bing Crosby and David Bowie to show the contrast of God who blends the old and new, thus speaking to all.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHTitT_X8-g

An excellent way to express the love of the coming Christ Child would be to serve at the Open Door Christmas party this Friday and Saturday. See the GGCC website for details on this and other ministry opportunities http://www.godsgracecc.com/Home/p/289824/Default.aspx

We hope to see all of you on the 24th at 3pm or 5pm for Christmas Eve worship in the Rock Canyon High School Auditorium. Invite a friend to come with you.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
