What is your gift to Jesus in 2018?

2018 is here and a time to set new goals and aspire to do things in 2018 we have never before accomplished. As you begin to think of how your year might unfold, remember to plan your gifts to Jesus.

In the Christmas carol, The Little Drummer Boy, the young drummer feels a need to honor the little infant Jesus with a gift, yet he doesn’t have any resources to provide a gift. What he learns upon visiting the baby Jesus is that “gifts” are in many different styles and formats. And many times, the gifts of our time and talents are the most special. As we know from the carol, boy’s calming drumming played for the baby Jesus brought comfort and a smile to the baby.

While the Bible doesn’t actually reference the little drummer boy, the words of the song certainly provide a good lesson to our own gifts. And in planning our gifts for 2018, we need to remember our gifts of self and talents we can share. The gift of us is all that is needed to be present and involved in the activities we perform. Playing our own drum is the greatest gift we can bring. God gave us the gift of eternal life through the gift of his Son. Our gifts, though much smaller in comparison, are meaningful if given with the best of intentions. Bill Crowder wrote in The Drummer Boy December 22, 2015 internet article in Our Daily Bread, “your little is a lot when you give your all.”
