What if God Blinks?

“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.” Luke 9:24

If for one moment God blinks, turns His face from me, what’s going to happen? This seems like a childish question but, sometimes my actions and my thoughts reflect just that. Deep down I know God is always vigilante. His life flows in us, gives us hope, fills us with joy even in the most difficult circumstances. At the same time I know I constantly have to make choices, the choice to say yes again and again to life. Not so easy when he lays something in front of me and asks, what are we going to do about this? I personally can choose but, if what I choose is a model for others, it takes away some of my freedom of choice or does it?

This world is full of people who choose victory and hope over despair and being a victim. I saw this once again on Monday night in the boys from Haiti. Stories shared of knocking down four levels of structures with sledge hammers. Lines of young men and boys hauling concrete debris from their home, in five gallon buckets as well as 20 ft. holes caused by the earthquake, no wrecking balls or bulldozers to help. Dancing is such a part of their lives these guys were actually doing dance steps as they were working. They said it lightened the load. The boys from Haiti model life. It’s not what we live but, how we choose to live what we live. They choose to live in joyful community with one another. They choose to live their pain and their joy in a certain way. They choose to share and model it with you and me. I doubt they know what a gift they are to us all. I thank you Father for a glimpse inside their inner house.

What was the last gift you received from God? Was it sin forgiven, prayer answered, joy, peace, direction given? How will you respond to such grace?

Abba God,
You never blink. Nothing is ever wasted. You have made us in such a way that the relationships you have given us will be everlasting. We thank you Father for your spirit filled life we see modeled for us Here, in Haiti, Nicaraqua and beyond. You are truly the Lord of all.
Amen
