Walking on Water Moments

Have you ever walked on water? The guys in this video claim to have run on water. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe3St1GgoHQ)

But the MythBusters guys don’t believe them; I think they pronounced this video as fake.

But, that’s not exactly what I meant when I asked the question, “have you ever walked on water?”  Have you ever done something you didn’t think you could do?  You know, somehow found the energy to finish something really physically demanding and before you finished you were pretty sure you weren’t going to be able to do it?  Or, walked into a new school or job when you were really anxious and scared?  Or, had a difficult conversation with someone when you dreaded the thought of having to do it?

We all have had moments or slivers of time when we did something we didn’t think we could do.  I like to think of them as our “walking on water moments”.  John Ortberg, author of If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat, says the question to ask is this: “What am I doing that I could not do apart from the power of God?”

When we think of those tiny moments when we did something we didn’t think we could do, we can rest assured that Jesus is truly us helping us be all we can be. We CAN go to the next step and the next time we are afraid or anxious, we can ask for Jesus’ help and be confident that Jesus will indeed help us do what we think we cannot. We might not be able to do it and we might fail. But that’s okay, Jesus will be there.

St. Paul writes in Philippians 4:11: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

Hope to see you in worship tomorrow, August 12 as Pastor Dave teaches about “Waveriding with Jesus” and we bless the new school year and all involved in it.
