Dear Bookkeepers,

Take a moment to read Matthew 20:1-16. It is a story that many find upsetting. People work different portions of a day in the vineyards. Then at the end of the day those who worked a little are paid as much as those who worked a lot. IT IS NOT FAIR!

Father Robert Capon, “If the world could have been saved by good bookkeeping, it would have been saved by Moses, not Jesus.”

To whom does God’s mercy seem undeserving? Where is there shame in your own life that you assume too elusive a target for God’s love and grace?

May the unconventional accounting of God this day offer us all grace and mercy beyond what would ever seem fair. Thanks be to God, that His love is unfair and offered to us in measure beyond what we could ever deserve.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
