Ultimate Gift

Dear Resurrection People,

“Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.” (John 20:1)

It is asking a great deal of people like us to conceive of something so wondrous as resurrection. On the basis of our experiences, most of us think that when we see something, we try to fit it within our past experience in order to make sense of it. Yet how shall we make sense of the resurrection, since there is almost nothing within the range of our experience that prepares us for so great a mystery ?

We shall have to wait, to wonder, to be willing to receive it as a gift. The resurrection will have to be something God gives us, not something we attain through our earnest efforts to think clearly. It is a gift. We do not understand it. We stand under it.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
