Turn Back to God

In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said,

“The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’”

-- Matthew 3:1-3

The story of John the Baptist that we’ll explore in worship tomorrow reminds me of Nelson Mandela.  Mandela was a voice crying out in the wilderness to end apartheid; and he was a voice crying out for those suffering from AIDS, for the poor and for any racial inequality.  He was an inspiration worldwide and we give thanks for his life, for his faith and for his moral convictions.

John the Baptist and Nelson Mandela each lived their call from God in courageous ways.  May we be inspired by them to believe that we, too, can live our call from God in courageous ways.  That Christmas makes a difference in our lives and in our world.  Because God so loved the world, he sent his only Son…changes who we are and how we live.

“Live life as though nobody is watching, and express yourself as though everyone is listening.” -- Nelson Mandela

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9 or 10:30 to continue our Advent preparations and remember the voice who calls us to turn back to God.

Warm blessings,
