Truth Seeker

John 8:31-32
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

“You can’t handle the truth!” – A Few Good Men

You realize, of course, that life has its own
plans. It’s fine to go forward, draw up
complex schemes, watch your dreams
play out as if each scene is real. Just be
willing to drop it all when truth comes calling.
Let every grain of sand fall from your cupped
hands and see the unkempt pile on the ground equally
as valuable as that castle you were building.
Allow the tide to scour all of it away, every trace,
and replace it with the sea’s own beauty.
– Building Castles by Danna Faulds

I am a seeker of truth. Truth is scary. I find it much easier to live the illusion, filling every waking minute with the things I have to do to maintain the illusion. Figuring out how to make more money, have more things, do more things. And then I catch a glimpse of the truth and it is without fail, something simpler, deeper, more life giving. But it’s hard to LET GO. It’s hard to let go of the idea that I have to keep up with the Jones or I will lose my esteem in the eyes of my friends. And that doesn’t give my friends much credit now does it? So I continue to seek and hope that the glimpses last longer and that I become a more courageous seeker.
