To the Streets

Dear Christmas People,

One of my seminary professors once labeled Dr. Martin Luther, the 16th century church reformer, as a “Street Fighter Theologian.” I am not often one for labels, but I think Luther would have affirmed that one.

Luther says of the gospel, the good news of the coming of God to us,” in which people should find great joy….but the world takes offense and is provoked… This is our dear Lord Christ everywhere in the world an annoying preacher. The gospel will never fare otherwise. It is and it will be a message at which offense is taken, not by the lowly, but by the most saintly and most pious, and the wisest and mightiest on earth…” (Martin Luther , Sermon for the Third Sunday in Advent, 1544.)

May we each faithfully take the Christ Child to the streets.

Merry Christmas,

Pastor David J. Jensen
