Tis the Season...

This year seems to have gone by so fast. We have less than 30 days until Christmas.

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and before you know it, Valentine displays will be in the stores, most likely before Christmas.

When I do my devotions I think about the prayer requests the church has. Some are prayers for healing, some are prayers of forgiveness, celebration and joy. But most of the prayers are about health. When I was a kid there was commercial on TV that said, “when you’ve got your health you’ve got everything.” I remember thinking “that’s stupid, what a dumb ad.” The product was called Geritol.

Over the past year in our church we have lost a number of our church family, some from long illness, some suddenly. But all of them were loved and are missed.

We have church family members in the hospital.

We have church family members recovering from surgeries at home.

We have church family dealing with pain issues, addictions, loneliness and separation.

When you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything. Not so dumb when you think about it. As I have gotten older what I wouldn’t give for one more day, with someone I have lost. I know someday I will get that chance.

I don’t mean for this to be a complete downer. We have so much to be thankful for, this Thanksgiving and holiday season. We get to celebrate advent together at the dinners on Wednesday’s. We get to enjoy holiday lights, holiday classics on TV, and just being together when possible.

It’s not the presents that matter, or the “stuff” sitting under the tree. It’s the celebration of the Christ Jesus, who has given us all we need. Who was born and died for us. We can celebrate that all year long.

Wishing you a wonderfully joyous Christmas season. Wishing you health and happiness.
