The Vine and the Branches

John 15 :1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me."

It is grape harvest season in the Alsace region of France and in the Mosel and Rhine regions of Germany. Everywhere, in all the vineyards, the Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurtztraminer and Pinot Noir grapes are all being picked by hand off the vine branches.  Vintners and their families are in the fields all day long, lovingly and tenderly picking the ripe grapes this 2nd week of October. Every year, in some cases for 17 generations, the families have gathered in the vineyards in a labor of love.  As I watched the harvest this week, I was reminded of all of us in the family of God. Our nourishment and are growth come from are being part of the  family of God, part of the True Vine, Jesus.

Just as the vine branches and grapes are subject to the wind, rain, sun and storm, we sometimes experience trials and tribulations in our lives.  However, we like the vine branches and the grapes are lovingly and tenderly tended by God to bring about the best in us, just like the sun, wind, rain bring out the best in the grapes.

This harvest season may you experience the loving and tender nurturing of God to bring you into a richer and fuller relationship with Him. Amen

God Bless,
