The Question

Judges 2:11-12 “11 Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals. 12 They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They aroused the Lord’s anger.”

Wow, there’s a lot to unpack here… Ohhh those Israelites!

I do evil in the eyes of the Lord. Yes, I do!

I have at times said things to the woman I love most in all of the world that I wish I had never said… GOD sees that.

I have taken advantage of people in situations that benefit me to the detriment of other people, other people created in the image of GOD… GOD sees that.

I prejudge people I see during my day… homeless people, fancy car drivers, bankers, politicians, and then I talk or think bad about them. People I’ve never talked directly to… GOD sees that.

Judges 2:16-19 “16 Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders. 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. They quickly turned from the ways of their ancestors, who had been obedient to the Lord’s commands. 18 Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord relented because of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them. 19 But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.”

Are you a judge or a follower of Baal? Do you bring people up, or do you bring people down?

You can be either. Both have consequences.

BUT, you get to choose!

Martin Luther King Jr. says “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent on things that matter.” And “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

GOD loves us, you and I! GOD loves us whether we follow Baal or whether we follow GOD!

The question isn’t what will GOD do?   And the question isn’t what will you and I do?

The question is what are you and I doing?
