The Perfect Gift

“The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

As we prepare for the journey into holy week, I am always amazed how much we are beloved by God. The greatest gift the world has ever known is here. God with us, Jesus, his sacrifice, his free gift of love and acceptance of me, all humanity, all creatures. Even with all our weaknesses and imperfections, his mercy and grace has made us a new creation. There is endless life inside us. His love, His strength is now available, we can share with others. The Easter promise holds such joy. Paradise regained for this world.

“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12

We all remember the story of the child, one of many children, who asks his mother this question. Mama, who is your favorite? The wise mama says, God chose you just for me. You are my favorite. I will love you whatever you do and wherever you go. We see love in the gentleness and acceptance of those living around us. When we choose to see the world not as it is but, what God’s love can make of it.

I love the visual imagery in the verses in Isaiah. They allow us to step out of the ordinary and envision a new creation. Because of Jesus we can realistically see with new eyes. We can live with freedom to love and experience. We can choose to silence the word impossible and live with a passion for the possible.

Abba God,
Help me hear your still small voice, which is constantly inviting me, to follow you in the dance of acceptance. Through your Spirit may I feel the rhythm of your heartbeat. You hold our lives in your loving hands. We praise and thank you for your beloved son, Jesus. Amen
