The Lost Matter

Dear Prodigals,

“Suppose one of you had one hundred sheep and lost one. Wouldn’t you leave the ninety –nine in the wilderness and go after the lost one until you found it?” Luke 15:4,5

“Or imagine a women who has ten coins and loses one. Won't she light a lamp and scour the house, looking in every nook and cranny until she finds it?” Luke 15:8,9

Have you ever felt misplaced or out of place?  Many people whom I encounter feel alienated from their creator. What we learn from Luke 15 is that the lost matter to God.

“For thirty years I sought God. But when I looked carefully, I saw that in reality God was the Seeker and I was the sought.” – An anonymous Sufi, quoted by James P. Carse, “Breakfast at a Victory-The Mysticism of Ordinary Experience”.

Ironically we humans wrestle with the grace of God. How could such a wondrous gift as an intimate relationship with the Creator of the universe be free of charge? There is no such thing as a free lunch? We live in a competitive world where there are winners and losers, it doesn’t make sense that we are all winners?  Biblical truth tells us, God is on a mission that won’t end “…until all are found…” Though we try to wrestle with the complexity of grace, thanks be to God for the simple truth of the gift.

On this 18th anniversary of 9-11, let us pray for all who continue to mourn. May we each embrace the simple truth of God’s grace which seeks out the lost. For those who feel included and accepted are less prone to violent behaviors.

Prayers: For all who feel lost among us, may the truth of Christ's grace reach into their lives. For Cindy Howell who is struggling with cancer. For Garrett Heshmati and Sammi Poster, Mo & Andrea's son and soon to be daughter-in-law on their marriage this Friday. For the sinner, the homeless, the hungry, the social outcast. And for all who mourn the events of 9-11-01.

Allan Jackson reminds us of the timeless truth of Gods “Amazing Grace”.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogxLNlgKM8c
