The "Lost" Holiday

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." Psalm 107:1

A number of weeks ago as I was picking up a few things at the store, I noticed that retailers had already begun stocking their shelves with Christmas items. Don't get me wrong, Advent and the Christmas Season is one of my favorite times of the year, but, I was frustrated and saddened by the fact that once again Thanksgiving is lost in the shadows between Halloween and Christmas.

Then I started thinking, is it really lost?  I still thought about it even tho it was not visually in front of me. Once again, a reminder to be thankful EVERYDAY, not just on the fourth Thursday in November.

What are you thankful for? As I was going thru yet another box from storage, I ran across something a friend wrote back in 1995 ... I could not have said this any better ...

"... somewhere amongst the football games and stuffing, the parades and pecan pie, don't forget to thank the Lord above for all that He has given you. One thing that I am very thankful for is the love of friends like you, and I wish to take this opportunity to give thanks to you for the laughs, the smiles, the hugs, the shared wisdom, and the kind words that you have given me ..."

So this day and always, I am thankful for all that God has given me, the good times and the trying times and all that the journey holds. I am thankful for all who have come into my life and taught me something. I am thankful for all who may read this and it is my wish that you find Thanksgiving all year long!!

Dear God, thank you for all that you have Blessed our lives with. Please be with us today and everyday. Help guide us into a daily life of thankfulness no matter what life may bring. In your name we pray. Amen.
