The Greatest Gifts Given At the Cross

Some of the greatest gifts that God gave to man began at the cross. Much has been said about the gift of the cross itself, but what about the other gifts? What about the nails, the crown of thorns? What about the garments that were taken by the soldiers and the garments given for the burial? Have you taken the time to open these gifts?” Why are these gifts so important? It is these gifts that were a part of the sacrifice that Christ’s gave for us at the cross.

I thank Our Lord and Savior not only for the finished work He completed through His ultimate sacrifice…the work of our salvation - but also for the Cross as a daily reminder of true strength and grace under pressure. God tells us in James 1:17-18 that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father not the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created."

As we continue our reflection on Christ’s death and resurrection through Holy week, let us not forget about the gifts that God has given us. Let us not forget about the hope that Paul reminded us about in yesterday’s devotion. Most of all let us not forget about the cross, where the ultimate sacrifice took place for all of our sins.

Prayer: Father, we enter into Your presence in the name of Jesus. Lord, we thank you for the gifts that you have given us through your son Jesus Christ. As we approach Easter, we ask that You remind us of the purpose of giving.

Lord, we ask that You comfort those families in Italy that have lost love ones in the recent earthquake. Most of all Father, we ask that it You bring peace on this earth. We ask that you continue to send your blessings upon us and provide us with the strength to spread the news about the cross. We ask all these things in Jesus name,

Tamikia, thanks. It's easy for me to rush past the "hard" stuff, the not-pretty stuff to get to the end result - the good stuff, the resurrection. But we can't skip the hard parts of our life. We can get through the hard stuff by following Jesus' example through the hard stuff and be grateful for the many gifts available to us along the way. thanks Tamikia and Paul from yesterday for your words on our Holy Week journey!
