The Greatest?

Dear Ambitious,

“The silence was deafening—they (Jesus' disciples) had been arguing with one another over who among them was the greatest.” Mark 9:34 ( The Message translation)

The disciples were 'silent,’ presumably embarrassed at being caught by Jesus as they argued about which of them was the greatest. Their ambition however, was perfectly human. Some people are more honest than others about their ambition

“At the age of six I wanted to be a cook. At seven I wanted to be Napoleon.

And my ambition has been growing steadily ever since.” Salvador Dali

How does your ambition grow? When do your ambitions become obstacles to the servant hood Christ calls you to?

When the drive for human ambitions is harnessed, the peace of Christ increases.

Tomorrow you are invited to serve at the ”Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives” after school program from 3:30pm to 5:15pm. See the church website for details. We give thanks to Diana Dietvorst for her servant leadership regarding this ministry.

Prayers: For all political and judicial leaders, for the victims of hurricane Florence and for serving Christ vs. human ambitions.

A few years ago Jim Dietvorst lead a powerful discussion on ambition with our youth using the song “Royals” by Lorde.

Who among us is the greatest?

 Still in One Peace,

 Pastor David J. Jensen
