The Good News

How do you experience God?  For me, it is most profoundly through music, both instrumental and vocal.  I have loved to sing from childhood, and am very happy to again be singing in a choir (the Colorado Choir has its next concerts May 3 and 4).  Many of the times I have most felt the presence of God, it has been while singing, whether a complex Bach motet, or a simple Swedish folk hymn.  It is many of the latter that I find myself still hearing in my head from time to time, and I am brought once again into God’s presence.  I grew up in the Covenant Church, an offshoot of the Swedish Lutheran Church when they emigrated here 150 years ago.  We often sing one of the songs from that heritage at God’s Grace – “How Great Thou Art” – one of the best known hymns in the world.  Another of those folk hymns that many of you may know – one that we used to close every North Park College Choir concert – is “Children of the Heavenly Father”, a song that gently reminds us of God’s love.

However, today I want to share one of the songs that keeps coming back to me, especially when I am down or less than aware of God’s gift of grace in my life.  Our college choir sang this one on tour as well, so I still remember the words, now 40 years later.  Please take a moment to read each verse, and especially focus on the last phrase of each verse, for that is the good news!

O Let Your Soul Now Be Filled With Gladness

O let your soul now be filled with gladness, your heart redeemed, rejoice indeed!
O may the thought banish all your sadness, that in his blood you have been freed,
That God’s unfailing love is yours, that you the only Son were given.
That by his death, he has opened heaven, that you are ransomed as you are.

If you seem empty of any feeling, rejoice you are his ransomed bride!
If those you cherish seem not to love you, and dark assails on every side.
Still yours the promise come what may, in loss and triumph, in laughter, crying,
In want and riches, in living, dying, that you are purchased as you are.

It is a good every good transcending that Christ has died for you and me.
It is a gladness that has no ending, therein God’s wondrous love to see.
Praise be to you, O Spotless Lamb, who through the desert my soul are leading
To that fair city of joy exceeding, for which you bought me as I am.

Thanks be to God!

thing without having side effect , people can take a signal.
Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
