The Community of Saints

“When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.” Deitrich Bonhoeffer

“Sin boldly but believe and rejoice in Christ more boldly still.” Martin Luther

A reporter once told Mother Teresa, “I wouldn’t do what you do for a million dollars.” She responded, “Me neither.”

"The best way in which a Christian can interpret Scripture is to do so as Jesus did! He read with the assumption that God had been in dialoging with humanity since the beginning.” - Richard Rohr

The church I was raised in seemed to be about statements of belief, moral codes, personal salvation and belonging to the right sect or denomination. I am learning now that it is about community, a life in common with others. Learning through prayer and suffering. It is about being in relationship and seeing Christ, the incarnation of God in others. It is about transformation. Living the teaching of Jesus rather than reciting creeds. I think the preceding quotes are from people who learned to walk in relationship and in the presence of the Lord long before me.

Loving God, thank you for the saints who have gone before and shown us the way. In Jesus' name, Amen.
