The Best of Things

The other night I caught the last few minutes of the movie - The Shawshank Redemption.  I really like the part where Red discovers the letter from Andy DeFesne that Andy hid for him in a box in a field. In the letter, Andy is asking Red to come join him in Mexico and he says that “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.”  Somehow Andy knew that Red desperately needed hope.  I can’t agree more.  We all need hope, especially the hope that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit provide.  Below are just a few of my favorite scripture verses about this hope.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 1 Peter 3:15

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3

For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8:24-25

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12
