Thanks & Hurt

Dear Thankful,

Before you read any further, text someone you are thankful for, whom you have not communicated with in 2017.

“That life is wasted which is spent piling, heap upon heap, those things which minister to the pleasure of the body and to the power that rests only in wealth. Let us therefore as a people set our faces resolutely against evil and with broad charity, with kindness and good will toward all men (and women), but with unflinching determination to smite down wrong, strive with all strength that’s given us for righteousness in public and private life.”  Teddy Roosevelt said these words as a reminder to Americans in 1908.

The music video “Hurt” by  Johnny Cash gives me pause to ponder words such as those expressed by Teddy Roosevelt. “Hurt” is clearly my favorite music video (yes even better than the work of Bruce Springsteen.) Cash is in his later years, reflecting on what matters.  Through song and powerful image he invites us in to do likewise.

May your Thanksgiving time be blessed.

For prayer-- pray Psalm 100 in its entirety. “We are God's people, God’s well-tended sheep…..Thank God! Praise God!” Vs 3,4.

Prayer item: The graveside service for our sister Debbi Meadow will be at the Alnutt Funeral Home in Estes Park this Friday at 11am.

Her memorial service will be held at the Dixon Chapel, Cherry Hills Community Church on Thursday November 30th, at 2pm. Blessed be her memory among us. May Jeff, Vivian, Sabrina, and Scarlett be blessed in their mourning. (Matthew 5:4)

Prayers for Maureen Herzog, the Heflebowers and all who offered a hand so that 105 Thanksgiving baskets could bless Paris Elementary families last Saturday.

Jude DelHierro and Confluence ministries. Jude leads a team of 3 on a mission trip to Puerto Rico to assist with hurricane aid that departs this Sunday.

Also pray for Wings of Hope and other like minded organizations that are transforming the Kingdom of God. Wings of Hope is committed to pancreatic research. I was blessed to listen in to the vision of its founder Maureen Shul and other leaders at a fundraiser last Friday night.

And now go text "thank you" to  another person who you have not talked to (nor texted) this year. You will be the one doubly blessed.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
