Thanks Giving to God

Turkey, football, mashed potatoes, football, stuffing, football, carrots, yams, green beans, green peas, corn, cornbread, and football gives you a sense of Thanksgiving. Doesn’t that make you hungry? Oh, I forgot the shopping, shopping, and shopping. Black Friday is coming around the corner. There are even pre-black Friday sales going on. Stores open on Thanksgiving. That is amazing. I will probably see the day where they serve you Thanksgiving dinner while you wait in line to purchase shopping items. But I think it is more than that.

I was with a group of people handing out food at Paris elementary school. We had a record number of baskets and despite the crazy traffic on I-225, all the baskets were delivered. People gathered in groups taking pictures. There were so many smiles on people’s faces and so many were so grateful for the Thanksgiving dinner. It was a great day. I got the opportunity to drive a mother and daughter to their apartment delivering the basket to their home. They were so grateful and appreciative. They were so elated when I got the basket to their doorway. I felt that was what Thanksgiving was all about.

We sit around the table stuffing ourselves with food and football. Before that, we go around the room saying to each other what we are thankful for. Parents are thankful for their children. Children are thankful for family and friends. The whole family is grateful for the dog. We should be most of all thankful to God. Giving praise and thanks to the Almighty. God gives us the opportunity to experience the most wonderful things in life and Thanksgiving is one of those things. Family and friends is another and the list goes on.

We have to give thanks to God for those opportunities to help the less fortunate. We at God’s Grace and many other churches do a wonderful job to reach out to the less fortunate and give them a helping hand. Food banks and shelters do an incredible job. We are provided so much in this country and so many opportunities to help. We are so thankful for God and the funny part is that God is thankful for you. So remember during this holiday season to feed and clothe Jesus. Happy Thanksgiving!

In Christ,
Stan
