Take Time For It

Nobody finds time for prayer. You either take time for it or you don't get it. - Joan Chittister

Jesus made time for prayer. Often. I guess he got it.

Why don’t we get it? One author I read said it was because we were too busy trying to be God in our own lives instead of letting God take care of us.

Time for prayer isn’t just asking God what we want. Time for prayer isn’t just lifting up our prayer concerns for others. Time for prayer isn’t just listening to see if God is going to confirm our thoughts.

Time for prayer is perhaps resting in God and God’s love. Time for prayer is perhaps wrestling with God about how we might live. Time for prayer is perhaps questioning God, sharing our doubts and our hopes. Time for prayer is something we take time for so that we don’t lose our connection with God.

It’s as easy and simple – difficult and challenging as that.

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 and 10:30 am as we gather in community to worship, thank and praise our God. And to wrestle with God’s word and Jesus’ counterintuitive teachings. It won’t be the same without you.

Grace be with you,
