Surrendering the Handlebars

“Christ himself is our peace.” Ephesians 2:14

I love this verse. It’s a gentle reminder that our emotions, the business of our schedules, the chaos of the world around us does not have to rule our day. My emotions are rarely dependable. Our creator God gives me moments in time to let go of the conflict, the confusion, all that weighs down the sanctuary of my heart. God isn’t the one who leads me into a more complicated life with more stress. I get there quite easily by myself. When I trust God and let him take the lead in my life, I’m a more peaceful, giving and productive person. This is going to take a lot of practice on my part but, He promises to be faithful to be the calm, peaceful stillness in the center of everything that faces me today...

This simple exercise helps me, maybe you too.

I promise that for Just One Day I will:

  • Get out of my head and relax.

I will do this by breathing deeply from my belly and letting my mind relax down into my breath at the belly. I will call my mind back to my breath every time I start to worry or get anxious. If it takes a million times, I will call my mind back to my breath a million times.

  • Go outside for a walk

Nature is a powerful healer and reminder of our connectedness to all that is.

  • Love myself

Placing my hand over my heart I will say “For just one day I will do my best to love myself as I would a little child and as much as I want others to love me.

  • Acknowledge my feelings

For just one day I will acknowledge my feelings. I will ask myself, “What am I feeling under my anger?” I will not hold onto them or push them away. I will simply allow them. They are as they are. They will unfold and they will pass.

  • Go out of my way to be kind

Reach out to a stranger or friend with a simple act of kindness. Greet those I meet with a smile and kind words

  • Say thank you

Today I will offer an unexpected thank you to someone who has blessed my life, even in a small way. I will pass the love on!

  • Ask my angels to help me love and grow

Today I will acknowledge my angels and ask that this day be dedicated to my highest good and the love and grace of the mystery we call God, Love.

  • Be a vessel of God’s light and love

With hand upon my heart I will say to myself, “Today, I am a vessel of God’s light and love, even if I don’t believe it.

This is my promise, for Just One Day- Julie Chai MD

Abba God, Thank you that you are still in the business of calming all that fills my days, one day at a time. Forgive me when I try to handle everything myself. Help me to be aware of your nearness and when I feel confusion and life’s circumstances closing in, remind me to stop and call on you. Amen
