Sunday to Monday / Wrestling with God

“Jacob was left alone and man (being) wrestled with him until daybreak.”

Genesis 32:24

Jacob cheated his brother and he wrestled with God and after all that, he became known as Israel and the father of humankind. There must be hope for us then! Pastor Dave shared a clip of a Mohammed Ali fight; his name meant "beloved of God".

Reflections, devotional thoughts and conversation starters:

  • With whom have you had petty rivalries and silly competitions that became harmful to your relationship? (See Genesis 25:19-22 for reflection)
  • When have you become completely vulnerable to the mercy of another for the sake of the relationship? (See Genesis 33:1-4 for reflection)
  • All deep relationships require times of wrestling. Are you willing to wrestle with God? (See Genesis 32:22-32 for reflection)
  • Looking ahead to next week: Is there a blessing in the reluctant leader? See Exodus 3:1-12 and 4:1-13 for reflection on “Moses the reluctant leader.
