Sunday to Monday / When the Kingdom of God Comes Near

“Evangelist Dwight L. Moody started out as a shoe salesperson.”

Shoes are mentioned in the Bible more that you might think.

  • Moses takes off his shoes...Exodus 3:5
  • God provides for our needs with our shoes…Deuteronomy 29:5
  • Boaz offers reverence with his shoes …Ruth 4:7,8
  • Social justice comes through shoes …Amos 2:6
  • God protects us down to our toes.. Ephesians 6:15

The shoes we wear tell a lot about us.  Jesus' cousin John, describes Jesus as the one John is unworthy to untie his shoes.  Jesus ends his ministry by taking off the disciples' shoes and washing their feet.  But he begins by calling disciples out of their regular jobs and inviting them to join him.  Matthew 4:12-23.

Discussion, questions and reflections for your week:

  • What are your favorite shoes?
  • Read Exodus 3:5, Deuteronomy 29:5, Ruther 4:7-8, Amos 2:6, Ephesians 6:15 and pray a shoe prayer.
  • Would you rather lead or follow? What does Jesus want you to do? (Matthew 4:19)
  • Looking ahead to next week: When you hear the word “authority”, is your first impulse positive or negative? (Mark 1:21-28)
