Sunday to Monday / What A Friend We Have in Jesus

“What if this is a good as it gets?”

Jack Nicholson, in movie “As Good As It Gets”

Sometimes we too wonder, what if this is as good as it gets? But we hear through the Scriptures that hope and wonder and Jesus are still alive.

Yesterday we celebrated HS graduates and their families. We read through Luke 24 and the disciples and others learning of the "idle tale" that Jesus was alive; the walking and talking on the Emmaus road with Jesus, yet not recognizing him; and then remembering all that he had taught them and finding him present among them in the breaking of the bread. May we remember and recognize Jesus as we walk through life and faith this day.

There were technical issues so the service did not stream, we hope to be back up next Sunday. But check out photos from the week.

We find Jesus in the midst of our daily lives, not just on Sunday mornings. Use these prompts and links to take the message into your week.

  • Which do you ask more: “Is this as good as it gets?” Or, “I wonder how God will encourage my potential next?” (read Luke 24:1-12 )
  • Why did Jesus not rush to give them all the answers when the disappointed disciples told him their hearts were broken “..but we had hoped”? (Luke 24:13-35)
  • When were you last blessed because somebody decided to “show up”? How might you be a more effective blessing for Christ by “showing up” more? (see Luke 24:36-52)
  • What resurrection stories do you have of times Jesus entered your life to bring fresh hope when you thought all hope was gone? Read Luke 24, Matthew 28,Mark 16 and John 20,21 for further reflection)
