Sunday to Monday/ Waveriding with Jesus

“Out of the box” is sometimes merely another way to being “in the box.”

And then there are those, who come from a totally different place.

They ask another kind of question:

“There’s a box?”

~Rob Bell “Drops Like Stars” p. 26, 2009

On Sunday, Pastor Dave’s sermon was entitled “Waveriding With Jesus.” Text was from John 6:16-25.

We also laid hands on and blessed students, teachers and school staff as they head off to begin a new school year.

Some questions to help you reflect on yesterday’s message…

· Would you agree the fear and suffering are the elements which make you feel like you were “sinking” below the water’s surface? What do you fear? When have you suffered?

· How might the one who walked on water (John 6:19) take you out of the box where your fears dwell?

· This week practice the “art of disruption” with prayer, scripture, or service to another.

· Ponder the possibilities in prayer of the “God who wastes nothing.”

The Back to School theme woven throughout worship.  Here are the blessings used at the end of the service to bless students and educators.  You might want to use this blessing at home, or pray these blessings for students and educators in our communities.

For Students...
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Please watch over our students.
Guide them and protect them.
Fill them with courage, confidence and peace;
Give them a love for learning
We are thankful for these students
We ask your blessing on them,
Amen.

For Teachers, Staff, Administrators, Coaches...

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Please watch over our educators.
Guide them and protect them.
Fill them with wisdom, courage and peace.
Fill them with patience and love.
We are thankful for these educators
We ask your blessing on them,
Amen.
