“So, what don’t you want?”

~ waitress in Academy Award nominated film, “Hell or High Water”

Pastor Dave asked the question..."so, what don't you want?" You don't want broken relationships, you don't want fear and move to a place where we get what we want, we must consider what we don't want. It's through muting the voices of the world and stopping to listen to the voice of God that we can move to that place.

Yesterday was the story of the Transfiguration - Jesus on the mountaintop with his three closest friends, Peter, James and John. It's halfway between Christmas and Easter. Jesus is going down the mountaintop to the cross. Lent begins this week with Ash Wednesday. Jesus was transfigured: "His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes. Sunlight poured from his face. His clothes were filled with light." Matt 17:2 Msg and then the Voice was heard: "This is my Son, marked by my love, focus of my delight. Listen to him." Matt 17:5 Msg

Pastor Dave shared his annual "State of the Church". See the outline State of the Church Report Feb 2017.pdf. And, we gathered for the Annual Congregational meeting and Celebration. The 2017 budget was approved as a Faith Statement that we have the resources to cover it. We rejoiced that more than $83,000 was given away and through our time, talents and treasure 61,000 lives were touched.

Take the message into your week. We'll be looking for you for Ash Wednesday worship on March 1, anytime between 5:30 and 7:00 pm at RCHS, room 3800 (enter through main lobby doors and follow the signs).

  • What voice calls you home and reassures you that you are a precious child of God?
  • When do you “mute” or “silence” the voices of the world so you can hear the voice of your God? See 2 Peter 1:16-21 for reflection.
  • How do you “recognize” the voice of God and turn it up to “megaphone“ levels? See Matthew 17:1-9 for inspiration.
  • As we prepare to hear a member of Jimmy Buffett’s band next weekend, ponder how music assists spiritual formation in ways other forms of message cannot.
