Sunday to Monday / To Whom Shall We Go?

“Jesus is not repelled by us, no matter how messy we are, regardless of how incomplete we are. When we recognize that Jesus is not discouraged by our humanity, is not turned off by our messiness, and simply doggedly pursues us in the face of it all, what else can we do but give in to his outrageous, indiscriminate love?”
– Michael Yaconelli in Messy Spirtuality

Jesus! We don't always understand what you're trying to teach us, but who else can we turn to?

It appears that Jesus doesn’t seem interested in whether or not we fully understand his teachings – he is more interested in nurturing a relationship that is built on trust and faith. It’s not by our sheer effort or grit that get us in right relationship with God. But it’s through Jesus’ words, through his grace and mercy, and with the help of the Spirit.

Reflections, discussion starters and links for your week:

  • When do Jesus’ teachings offend you? How might you stay with them and see where Jesus goes?
  • When is it hard to follow Jesus?
  • What do you persevere for? How might Jesus help you?
  • Do you think you have to work to get God’s love? Why? How might you accept Jesus’ teaching in John 6 that it’s only through God’s grace we are welcomed into his family?
  • Looking ahead to next week: What faith rituals have lost their meaning for you?
