Sunday to Monday | The Church

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of thebody, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.  For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we wereall made to drink of one Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:12,13

God of love, we do not always recognize your words as loving. As the people of Nazareth grew angry with Jesus, we often grow hostile when your wisdom and insight challenge our own.Content with our priorities, we resent your prophets.Set in our ways, we fail to become agents of your changes.

God of justice and mercy, upset us in our sureness so that we might hear your words.Disturb us with your love, that our hearts might be open to new ideas or people.Awaken us to your challenges, that we might awaken others to the coming of your spirit.

~Some questions to think about this week...

  • Has losing ever left you feeling closer to Jesus?
  • Are you willing to be praised (Luke 4:15) as well as negatively criticized (Luke 4:29) to follow Jesus?
  • What are we to do about the "church?”How might you offer yourself in a new way to bring fresh vitality to the church?
  • What do you think of the quote the judge said to Shane Claiborne, “If unjust laws were never broken we’d have no freedoms?”
