Sunday to Monday / The Better Part

“A loving God does not leave us to our own devices.  God loves us enough to judge us, to speak the truth to us, and to enable us to bear that truth and to change.  In the great drama of God’s salvation of the world, we too have our part to play and in stepping on stage to play our part, we find our lives transformed, subsumed into the great pageant of God’s glorious salvation of the world.”  ~ Anonymous

Sunday's message was about the story of Martha and Mary entertaining Jesus.  Martha is the doer and Mary is the one who focuses on the heart.  Which one are you in the story?  Take time to meet Jesus every day.

Here's some thoughts for this week:

  • If Jesus was coming over for dinner would you identify more with Martha or Mary?  Would you be focused on preparing or hearing?  (Luke 10:38-42)
  • Do you identify with Martha?  Are you caught up in the “Behold Me Busy” (BMB) syndrome?  Do you want to be less busy and be in the presence of Jesus?  (Luke 10:39).  Watch the Youtube of the Impalas and Cheetahs as a metaphor.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD6wdrVFc0g
  • Do you see your life in the metaphor?  Are you running for your life like the Impala?  Do you feel like the Cheetah chasing prey each day?  Are you hoping for a truck to jump into and seek refuge? Pray the hymn “Softly and Tenderly”

Come home, come home;

 You who are weary come home;

 earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

 calling, O sinner, come home! (“Softly and Tenderly”)

 Into my heart, Into my heart,

 Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.

 Come in today, come in to stay,

 Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.
