Sunday to Monday | Surrender and See Jesus

“I don’t want realism … I want magic!”
~ From A Streetcar Named Desire, Warner Brothers, 1951, script by Tennessee Williams

On Sunday, Pastor Dave spoke of how the Bible is the book of imagination.  "Faith is the enduring ability to imagine life in a certain way.” James Whitehead

Discussion questions for this second week of Advent:

  • What thoughts do you have on Rev. Peter Gomes’ quote that the Bible “… is a book of imagination?”
  • What helps you to “prepare” for Jesus to enter your heart? What hinders, your “preparation?” (Luke 3:4)
  • What would you prefer to “imagine” Jesus doing in your life?
  • Offer up this prayer this week: Come, though long-expected Jesus, born to set they people free; from our fears and sins release us; let us find our rest in thee. Israel’s strength and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art, dear desires of every nation, joy of ev’ry longing heart. ~Charles Wesley, 1707-1788

Second Sunday of Advent: Peace
1. Light two purple candles symbolizing Hope and Peace.
2. Read Matthew 1:18-25 about Joseph finding out about Mary’s pregnancy and being told by the angel in a dream that this is from God.
3. Question for children: How did Joseph have Peace? (Joseph had Peace that God was going to take care of their family)
4. Pray: Lord, help us to have Peace that you are taking care of us.
5. Activity: Read a children’s nativity story book.
