Sunday to Monday / Sing with Joy & Hope

“…it was the singing that pulled me in and split me wide open.”
~ Anne Lamott

Music is our first language and Friedrich Nietzsche said, “Without music life would be a mistake.” On the 3rd Sunday of Advent, we rejoiced in the gift of joy and hope, especially through music. We got to hear why our musicians Ed and Dave are grateful to serve among us.

Reflections, resources, links and discussion starters for this week:

  • How would you define “Music” in 20 words or less?
  • Flip through the Old Testament really fast, notice all the poetry. The Old Testament is filled with song. How have songs shaped your spiritual life? (see the Psalms.)
  • When have you experienced Anne Lamott’s words that the music “...pulled you in and split you wide open”?
  • How would your life, family, friendships and the world change if we all joined Mary in singing, “Mary’s Song”, Luke 1:39-56?
  • Spotify playlist of Advent music:
  • For young families: make your own Christmas music cheer
  • For teen families: talk about why your teens listen to the music they do
