Sunday to Monday / Seeing What God is Doing

"A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots." Isaiah 11:1

It was the 2nd Sunday of Advent. Pastor DJ gave us a good definition of a prophet: one who shows us what God is doing so that we can get in on it. He shared this verse above from Isaiah. When things seem to be dead (stump), God brings a green shoot growing from the stump. We can see that God is present and active in our world. We got to hear from Steve & Becky Koerwitz, Kristen Mascoe and Claudia Larson, the team who just returned from a trip to Nicaragua with Love Light and Melody. They told stories of how God was present with them and the people they met.

If you weren't able to join us, you can watch it here. Prayers of the day here

See photos!

Through you generosity to Nicaragua and the Ready to Bless Fund, the team was able to disburse donations as follows:

  • $1,800 – Bismark’s church; next phase of posts to support walls and part of the roof
  • $810 – Rice and beans for families in the Nueva Vida trash dump community and toys for 21 scholarship students in the Beauty for Ashes program. (Parents get to pick a gift to give their child.)
  • $750 – Jorge’s ministry at Pocho Cuape
  • $430 – to Jorge to use as he felt best, with an emphasis on his and his wife, Monica’s health so they are able to serve
  • $375 – bracelets made by ladies in the Tipitapa community
  • $625 – Club Hope operational costs
  • $2,000 – Discretionary funds used to pay for leader Claudia Larson’s trip

$6,790 -- Total

Take this week's message into your weekly devotions and conversations.

  • Read Isaiah 11:1-11. How does it read in your home? How does it read in Nicaragua?
  • Where do you see stumps, Jesse, and green shoots?
  • How much time do you spend on the “3 energies” of Security/Wealth; Esteem/Fame; and Prestige/Power?
  • Looking forward to next week: “A Child is Given”: meditate upon that phrase, Isaiah 9:1-17 and Luke 1:28, 31-33.
