Sunday to Monday | Relationships over Rules

“You can’t hold your life together with the twine of rules. You can hold your life together only with the relational cords of grace and love.” Leonard Sweet, “The Bad Habits of Jesus”

Worship yesterday was another time of gathering to remember God's love and mercy and hear of Jesus' Bad Habits. Breaking the Rules! Jesus didn't break the rules to be a rebel, he did it to help us understand that in God's law it's: relationships over rules; everybody in; kids are a priority; hurting and hungry people first; mercy and grace abound. Relationships matter - that's why we push beyond the "rules" for youth ministry with the Mentoring Ministry. Relationships matter - that's why we've partnered with Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives, Love, Light and Melody, The Gathering Place, Paris Elementary, Confluence Ministries, Extreme Community Makeover and more.

If you missed it, you can watch here. Pray with us here.

Mark your calendar for Sept 9: Rev Kelly joins us at 10:00 am (one service only)

For your week's devotions, reflections and conversations:

  • Are you a rule breaker, or do you closely follow the rules? Why?
  • Rules can sometimes get in the way of relationships. How do rules get in the way of your relationships? How might you pray to join Jesus in changing the rules so that relationships can be strengthened or restored?
  • If God’s only rule is the rule of love; how might you follow this rule?
  • Pray about participating in the GGCC mentoring ministry to grow relationships among all ages of God’s children.
  • Looking ahead to next week: If you were to get a tattoo, where would you desire it to be located? See Mark 7:1-23 for further reflection.
