Sunday to Monday | Real Men Love

“…our fathers, are to be honored. But if Jesus is to be our guide, honoring them doesn’t mean either idealizing or idolizing them. It means seeing them both for who they are and for who they are not. It means speaking the truth to them. It means the best way of repaying them for their love is to love God and our neighbors faithfully and selflessly as at their best our parents have tried to love us. It means seeing they are taken care of to the end of their days.” ~ Frederick Buechner

It was Father's Day and we enjoyed worshiping together, celebrating dads, being reminded how God created men to be and of the relationships that are the worthy work of our lives.

If you missed being with us watch here. Prayers of the day here

For your week's reflection, devotions and conversations.

  • Take a sheet of paper: Write a description of your relationship with your dad. Then, write a description of your relationship with God. Reflect on how your relationship with your dad affects your relationship with God (and vice versa.)
  • Read Matthew 7:7-11. What do you need to ask God for? How do you feel about asking?
  • What are your stereotypes of how dads/granddads/male teachers/coaches are to behave? Are these in line with God’s expectations of men? How might you need to revise how you consider men’s roles with empathy and love/
  • Looking ahead to next week: What has Jesus done to offend you? Why?
