Sunday to Monday | Poetry

“Be kind, everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.”

Philo of Alexandria

We lit the candle for the Second Sunday of Advent and the theme was Bethlehem/Love. We remembered that Love came down at Christmas, in an unlikely form to an unlikely couple. Pastor DJ reminded us that we need both the prose (facts) and poetry (hopes and dreams) in our lives. The poetry of Isaiah 11:1-9 and the poetry of Mary's song in Luke 1:46-55 wondering about the Messiah.

If you were unable to be with us, you can watch here. Pray with us here. Find gift ideas here and here. See photos from the week's ministry:

Upcoming events:

For your week's reflections, devotions and conversations:

  • Do you think more in prose or poetry? Which does your heart crave now?
  • Why did Isaiah write in poetry vs prose? What effect does poetry have that prose cannot? See Isaiah 11 for reflection.
  • What is your favorite poem?
  • Looking ahead to next week: Would you like to receive a lover letter from God? Read Luke 1 and 3.
